Follow on Server SoC TG

Introduction

A follow-on Server SoC Task Group (TG) is proposed to achieve the following objectives:

• Develop the Server SoC Test Specification.

• Revise the Server SoC Specification by incorporating additional rules to address advancements in technology and RVI-driven developments.

Background

The Server SoC TG was established in April 2023 and released Server SoC Specification v1.0 in February 2025. Version 1.0 provides a comprehensive set of rules for Server SoC implementations. However, continuous updates are necessary to reflect industry advancements such as Scalable I/O Virtualization, PCIe 7.0, and CXL 3.x. Additionally, the specification must integrate new ISA and non-ISA extensions introduced by RVI.

To complement the Server SoC Specification, a Server SoC Test Specification is proposed. This specification defines a structured set of tests to verify compliance with the RISC-V Server SoC Specification. The test suite is intended to serve as the foundation for a future Server Platform Certification Program.

Objectives

The task group will deliver the following:

1. Server SoC Specification v1.1

   • Incorporates additional rules to support new RISC-V ISA and non-ISA extensions.

   • Addresses industry technology advancements, including Scalable I/O Virtualization, PCIe 7.0, and CXL 3.x.

2. Server SoC Test Specification v1.0

   • Defines a set of tests to validate compliance with the RISC-V Server SoC Specification version 1.1.

     • The test specification will provide tests for the superset of rules in specification version 1.1 - a subset of rules can be applied to version 1.0 implementations.

   • Provides the test infrastructure and the corresponding test suite.

   • Includes an emulated Server SoC environment using QEMU, ensuring alignment with the Server SoC Specification.
