The ARC reviewed a github issue (Conflict Between shlcofideleg Extension and AIA Specification Regarding Interrupt 13 (locfi) Handling · Issue #1785 · riscv/riscv-isa-manual ) concerning a conflict between the Shlcofideleg and AIA extensions and LCOFI. After discussion, the ARC concluded that Shlcofideleg is an update to the base privileged specification and AIA is an extension from the base, so that when AIA is implemented, it overrides the base. The ARC suggests that the AIA specification be updated to be clearer about it superseding the base privileged specification in this area.
Discussion of a problem with the Debug extension was brought to the attention of the ARC. The issue is that triggers are based on the current mode rather than the effective mode. Rather than a backwards incompatible change, the ARC suggests that this be fixed in a fast track extension to Debug that implements a mode bit for the correct behavior. Implementations would be able to hardwire this mode bit to 1.
In terms of new work, the ARC received the CHERI TG’s submission, and will begin a deep dive over the next few weeks. This is a big specification and will take some time to review.
